Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What exactly is the MoveWell program?

It is a program designed to detect areas of the body that aren’t moving normally and restore normal movement patterns. Abnormal movement patterns are usually the result of joints or muscles that are tight or weak and are many times the cause of chronic pain or injury.

The MoveWell program has a system of detecting these problems via 5-minute screens, one-on-one assessments and then delivering solutions via corrective exercise in group settings (MoveWell Quick Fix Seminars), handouts and through on-site consultation.

Q: Who developed this program?

The MoveWell program was developed by the Think Tank at the Michigan Institute for Human Performance, Inc. (MIHP) in Southeast Michigan. The Think Tank is comprised of individuals with backgrounds in physical therapy, strength and conditioning and performance enhancement. They have spent the last 10 years studying and solving human movement issues that can cause pain and delivering these programs into the corporate sector.

All MoveWell programs are administered by certified Movement Training Specialists from MIHP.

Q: How can I incorporate MoveWell into my company’s employee program?

The MoveWell system can be purchased as monthly, quarterly or yearly programming, which includes Quick Fix Seminar sessions, 5-minute screenings and one-on-one consultations provided on location. This type of programming is the most beneficial as it allows the Movement Training Specialist to gather data regarding common injuries that are increasing health care costs for the corporation and provide customized solutions for a particular work environment. Consistency in follow-up are key in changing overall injury rates and insuring the healthiest workforce.

The MoveWell programs may also be purchased ala carte’.

MIHP Movement Training Specialists are also available on a consulting basis to examine job ergonomics, research injury patterns and devise solutions and programs for musculoskeletal problems.

Q: How can I get more information about MoveWell?

If you are interested in a MoveWell program, you can contact MIHP at (586) 268-6942 or via email. An MIHP Movement Training Specialist can provide a free consultation to discuss the best possible options in bringing optimal health to your work force.

Q: How have corporations offset the cost of the MoveWell Program?

Many corporations have a budget for seminars and wellness programming. However, corporations may choose to only subsidize a portion of the program (i.e. one-on-one consultations). Many employees have commented on the value of a one-on-one assessment, and how they have more received answers to their musculoskeletal pain questions in 15-minutes that have not been answered with months and sometimes years of seeking medical advice. Having a Movement Training Specialist available for consultation, especially on a regular basis, is an excellent addition to an employee benefit program.

The MIHP Difference

MYTH: "To strengthen a muscle you must isolate it and feel the burn."

FUNctional FACT: You need to teach the muscles how to work together as a team. Teach the stabilizers how to stabilize while the prime movers are moving.

Optimal Golf

Research indicates that golf injuries due to overuse and poor swing technique are prevalent among golfers of all levels. Low back pain, wrist and shoulder injuries are just a few of the more common injuries sustained by golfers. The golf swing requires proper alignment, balance, flexibility, strength and control.
